As UNHCR statistics generally rely on data from host countries, statistics on refugees alone can give an insufficient account of refugee numbers, as some host countries will not grant refugee status to certain groups. Including statistics for individuals in refugee-like situations is an attempt to account for unrecognised refugees and does not include internally displaced persons. Statistics for stateless refugees are included if available.

The Legal Resources Foundation, Zambia provides legal advice free of charge to the public. They have offices throughout the country, contact details for which are available on their website . Through litigation, the LRF provides equal opportunities for access to justice for all by giving legal aid services at no cost to the underprivileged. LRF identifies refugees and asylum seekers in prisons and engages with UNHCR on issues regarding legal assistance to refugees. The Foundation provides legal advice services and representation to refugees before courts in designated refugee camps around the country.
