As UNHCR statistics generally rely on data from host countries, statistics on refugees alone can give an insufficient account of refugee numbers, as some host countries will not grant refugee status to certain groups. Including statistics for individuals in refugee-like situations is an attempt to account for unrecognised refugees and does not include internally displaced persons. Statistics for stateless refugees are included if available.

MNDHP has worked with refugees from Congo, Liberia and Chad living in Niger. The organisation has also provided legal assistance to the president of the association of refugees living in Niger in connection with his detention. MNDHP has also worked to reintegrate those displaced within Niger. With the assistance of their partners, MNDHP works to obtain potable water, training in hygiene for these populations and to ensure that children in these communities have access to education.

In addition, MNDHP has attended and organised various seminars on a variety of themes, including the 1951 UN Refugee Convention and its 1967 Protocol, the 1969 Convention relating to the Specific Aspects of the Refugee Problem in Africa, the Guiding Principles on Internal Displacement, and the protection of refugees in situations of armed conflict. The organisation has also begun to research the situation of Nigerien political refugees and asylum seekers in Belgium.
