As UNHCR statistics generally rely on data from host countries, statistics on refugees alone can give an insufficient account of refugee numbers, as some host countries will not grant refugee status to certain groups. Including statistics for individuals in refugee-like situations is an attempt to account for unrecognised refugees and does not include internally displaced persons. Statistics for stateless refugees are included if available.

The Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association (GYLA) is a non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting human rights and the rule of law. The GYLA provides both over the phone and online legal aid services, as well as private, in-person consultations. All consultations are confidential.
For online consultations, you must fill out the consultation form online, which can be found on their website under the Legal Assistance section. They accept requests from any part of the world, and a consultant should respond to such queries within two days, depending on the legal complexity of the question.
Legal Aid Consortium Georgia (LAG)
The Consortium Legal Aid Georgia (LAG) is an umbrella organization uniting four national NGOs based in the different regions of Georgia. The LAG Consortium offers free legal aid to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), IDP Returnees and Refugees in Georgia. The organization works to increase access to qualified legal services for all in need with a particular focus on IDPs, refugees and returnees, among other vulnerable groups.
The LAG Consortium achieves its goals through a variety of activities implemented together with its partners which include, but are not limited to: provision of relevant legal information through printed materials, radio programs and information sessions during outreach activities; organization of thematic trainings, seminars, and workshops for the displaced, other civil society actors as well as decision makers at various governance levels, and provision of comprehensive legal counselling and assistance including in-court representation. The organization also carries out researches and analysis of the needs of the target groups and examination of policies and laws affecting them; participation in various working groups, commissions and forums to improve the coordination amongst stakeholders and to influence decision making processes; ongoing capacity building to its members and staff to continuously increase the quality performance and to improve services provided to the target groups.

NRC provides humanitarian assistance to refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs) and returnees. Their programme activities are concentrated on five core activities, one being Information, Counseling and Legal Assistance. NRC provides legal assistance, usually through individual casework, but it may also entail class action. NRC pursues legal action through all relevant local, national and international legal systems and mechanisms, including customary law, conflict resolution and mediation mechanisms and any other prevalent systems of law – in addition to statutory law and the courts. NRC may provide training in legal issues to target groups and key local actors – to establish a platform of understanding of rights and applicable law, and subsequent legal approaches to key issues.
