Dr Marie Meudec, Senior Researcher, Outbreak Research Team (Department of Public Health, Institute of Tropical Medicine), is a social scientist trained in anthropology in Canada and France. Before joining the Institute of Tropical Medicine, she worked as an immigration and racial discrimination expert consultant for law firms in the UK and Canada and as a qualitative researcher on various topics (spiritual and healing practices, everyday ethics, stigma and resistance, health inequalities, racial profiling, among others), conducting ethnographic fieldwork in Haiti, Saint-Lucia and Canada. She has taught at Laval University, the University of Toronto and the State University of Haiti. Her doctoral research looked at witchcraft accusations and everyday processes of Othering in Saint Lucia, based on various criteria (gender, sexual orientation, religious practice, race and socioeconomic status).
