Dr Inge Amundsen

Dr Inge Amundsen is a Norwegian political scientist and researcher focussing on political economy, democratization and human rights. His main country expertise is on Malawi, Bangladesh, Angola, and Nigeria, and his current research topics include parliaments, political parties, political corruption, civil society and informal political engagement.

Amundsen has an extensive experience with Country of Origin reports, with a production of over 130 expert reports for asylum cases, including many appeal cases (by the beginning of 2020) for UK, American, Canadian and Dutch solicitors and law firms. He is an expert on human and political rights abuse; opposition and political persecution; political violence; sexual abuse and human trafficking; discrimination of the mentally ill and access to health care; risk of FGM; persecution and social stigma of religious, ethnic and regional minorities including LGBTI+; and the risk of return and of brutal and degrading treatment and torture.

Amundsen also has a long experience in documents authenticity assessments/verifications.

Please note that Dr Amundsen is not willing to provide his expertise pro bono, except for in a few, non-demanding cases and for NGOs in the ‘global south’.

Dr Richard A Lobban is an anthropologist and early pioneer in social network modelling, archaeologist, Egyptologist, and Sudanist, foreign policy expert, human rights activist. He is Professor Emeritus of Anthropology and African Studies at Rhode Island College, Providence, Rhode Island since 1972; also a lecturer at the Archaeological Institute of America and the Naval War College. He is an expert in Ancient Sudan and Ancient Egypt, with a particular focus on Nubia. Lobban has authored numerous books and publications such as the Historical Dictionary of Ancient and Medieval Nubia, Historical Dictionary of Sudan (2002), and Social Networks in Urban Sudan (1973). He has also authored/co-authored books such as Historical dictionary of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau (1997), Cape Verde: Crioulo colony to independent nation (1995), Historical dictionary of Cape Verde (2007), and Middle Eastern women and the invisible economy (1998).

Cristina Rodrigues

Cristina Rodrigues is an Angolan researcher, specialised in African Studies focusing on the Portuguese speaking African countries and particularly in Angola. She conducts academic research as well as consultancies in several areas since 1995, has therefore acquired a solid knowledge of the Angolan social, cultural and economic context. She has conducted field research in the majority of the Angolan provinces.

Dr Jon Schubert

Dr Jon Schubert is currently (from Apr 2021) an academic staff member of the political anthropology working group in the sociology and anthropology division at the University of Konstanz, following postdoctoral and visiting appointments at Brunel (as a Leverhulme Early Career Fellows), Sussex, Leipzig, and the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Geneva (as a visiting professor). He is the author of Working the System: A Political Ethnography of the New Angola (Cornell University Press 2017). He holds a PhD from the University of Edinburgh (2014) and an MA from the University of Basel (2007). He has been carrying out research in and on Angola since 2007 and served as Angola country expert to courts in the UK and the US since 2011. Having grown up in Luanda, Angola from 1984 to 1992 he is fluent in Angolan Portuguese, and he is, through his research and personal experience, well acquainted with the political and social conditions. Dr Schubert is willing to negotiate fees depending on the cases’ specific circumstances, including low bono and pro bono work.

Virginie Tallio (FGM/C)

Dr Virginie Tallio is an anthropologist who has worked on Angola since 2003 in several provinces and in Luanda where she has gathered extensive experience of social, political and human rights conditions. For her research, she has worked on refugees and returnees, the health system, non-State actors development policies and projects and the issue of identity documentation for Angolans who have lost their I.D. Dr Tallio has written expert reports for the Southern Refugee Legal Aid Network (SRLAN) and for different UK and USA legal aid clinics, solicitors and NGOs, especially regarding FLEC members or their family members, single women, unaccompanied minors and health-related issues.

She holds a PhD from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (Paris, France) and a Master of Advanced Studies in Demographic Economy from the Institut d’Études Politiques (Paris, France). She is fluent in French, English and Portuguese.
