As UNHCR statistics generally rely on data from host countries, statistics on refugees alone can give an insufficient account of refugee numbers, as some host countries will not grant refugee status to certain groups. Including statistics for individuals in refugee-like situations is an attempt to account for unrecognised refugees and does not include internally displaced persons. Statistics for stateless refugees are included if available.

The Center for Migration, Identity and Rights Studies (CMIRS) aims to contribute to and inform public debate on migration, identity and rights issues. Future Worlds Center is a non-governmental, non profit organisation established in Cyprus. Our mission is to explore and utilize the evolution of information and communication technologies to strengthen the process of peace-building and civic education, and to disseminate and promote the principles of Human Rights, Tolerance and Diversity.
The Humanitarian Affairs Unit of the organization implements a project funded by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) that offers free legal and social advice to asylum seekers and persons under international protection (recognized refugees, subsidiary protection).
The Humanitarian Affairs Unit also operates the Unit for the Rehabilitation of Victims of Torture (URVT), which supports and promotes the empowerment and rehabilitation of torture victims with a focus on refugees and asylum seekers.

KISA provides free legal and social services, support, guidance and advice at the two Migrant and Refugee Centers to safeguard the respect of their rights and deal with violations of these rights, both in the private and the public sectors, and to help empower them to claim their rights and facilitate their integration and full participation in society, through the encouragement and support of migrant, refugee and asylum seeker communities to set up their own organizations and promote autonomy. In the absence of a domestic asylum regime, the Refugee Rights Association (RRA) provides free legal support to asylum seekers and refugees entering Northern Cyprus. The RRA monitors arrivals in to the region and identifies persons of concern and those at risk of refoulement. The RRA provides legal representation and advocacy during asylum procedures including accessing UNHCR Refugee Status Determination processes.
